Get Exactly What you Want with Kincaid’s Customized Sofa Program

Monday, December 22nd, 2014

Kincaid_Homepage_Slider_Weatherford2Let’s face it, your sofa is one of the most important pieces of furniture you’ll buy for your home. While your bedroom might be where you spend the most time, and a dining room seems important because it’s where you gather for special meals, it’s the sofa that’s the centerpiece not only for social gatherings but for your family’s daily life. And the public sees your sofa in a way no one will ever see your bedroom!

Picking out the perfect sofa can be stressful. Usually you have a style in mind, and need something that will go with your existing color palette, but finding that perfect piece on the showroom floor can be close to impossible. That’s where Kincaid’s customized sofa program comes in! Kincaid offers more than 13,000 ways to build your own sofa, virtually ensuring you get exactly what you’re looking for.

It starts with a myriad of frame options, and then allows you to choose the style of the arms and legs as well as the finish. You can pick a depth of 36, 40 or 44 inches, so tall or short, the seat feels right. And then there’s length. From love-seat style to extra-long, there’s a size to fit in living space, whether it’s a small room in an apartment or a great room with plenty of open space to fill.

Finally, the extensive line of fabrics offered by Kincaid’s customized sofa program is a designer’s dream. There are over 600 different designs to choose from, and 50 of those are Sunbrella fabrics, which are durable, stain- and mold resistant fabrics in beautiful colors and patterns.

Stop by Bowen Town & Country Furniture today and let us walk you through the process to design the perfect sofa for your own living room. It’s the perfect Christmas gift to yourself! Give us a call, or email us for more information at 336-765-1360,

One More Reason for a Good Night’s Sleep: Fewer Negative Thoughts!

Wednesday, December 17th, 2014

slide-innerspring1We all know Benjamin Franklin’s famous saying, “early to bed and early to wise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” He probably could have also safely added “and happy with a good mattress.” According to the latest research out of Binghamton University-SUNY, a lack of sufficient sleep is linked to repeated negative thoughts. The question the research couldn’t answer though, is whether too little sleep causes negative thoughts, or whether a person having negative thoughts is unable to get to sleep. It’s a real chicken and egg conundrum.

Whatever the case, the real takeaway from this study is that it’s just one more example of research that shows how important it is to get a good night’s sleep. And what better way to ensure good sleep than to make sure you have a great mattress? A mattress is the foundation of your sleep hygiene. It provides support and comfort for more straight hours than any other piece of furniture that you own, which means it’s all that much more important to make sure your mattress is well made and durable.

Come into Bowen Town & Country Furniture today for a look at some of the great mattresses we have to offer. We have quality, American made mattresses in a wide range of styles to fit your comfort preferences as well as your budget.

While you’re in our showroom, take a look at some of the beautiful, American-made bedroom furniture you could choose to serve as a frame for your new mattress. After all, a combination of comfort and style can help you relax, wind down and really get prepared for a good night’s sleep. Top it all off with a nice set of soft cotton or flannel sheets, a warm light on the nightstand and a couple of good books to help you shut out the day and discourage any negative thoughts. And hopefully the next morning you’ll wake up full of positive thoughts. After all, you don’t want anyone commenting about your attitude with yet another tried-and-true saying, “that person must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed.”

Manage Your Holiday Stress with a New Recliner!

Wednesday, December 10th, 2014

CityHigh575x465December is a funny month. We’re all excited about the holidays and the opportunities they bring for getting together with friends and families, celebrating special traditions and eating great food. But on the flipside, it can also be a very stressful time of year. In addition to your regular schedule you have parties, church commitments, extra baking, shopping and decorating to do.

Here at Bowen Town & Country Furniture, we have a few suggestions to help you manage your holiday stress.

  1. Set a budget for gifts, and stick to it!
  2. Simplify your holiday commitments. Figure out what’s most important to your and your family, and then decline other invitations. A few nights at home to watch your favorite holiday movies will help everyone be in a better mood.
  3. Take a time out. Give yourself the gift of time alone, away from the family, the noise and the hustle and bustle. It’s okay to chill out for a while, and you’ll feel much better for it.
  4. Keep up your exercise routine. A good night’s sleep and regular exercise are important in managing your stress level.
  5. Buy a recliner!

Yes, you read that right. Sometimes, just coming home to a great chair is all you need to help you relax. And we’ve got some great recliners to choose from. If you haven’t tried out the line of Stressless recliners by Ekornes, come to Bowen Town & Country Furniture and sit in one today. They are designed specifically to reduce stress, thanks to a head rest and lumbar support that’s supported by the American Chiropractic Association. They also come in various sizes, to help you find your perfect fit.

We also have a great selection of recliners from Southern Motion, helping you relax by making your life effortless. Electric motors move the chair for you, and you can also find chairs that rock and swivel.

Protecting Your Furniture During the Holidays

Thursday, December 4th, 2014

MN2126RS_WFM12-150x150When you make a furniture purchase, it’s usually more than a spur of the moment impulse buy. That sofa that’s the centerpiece of your living room and the dining room table you eat on every night are investments. Of course you want to protect your furniture and investments, and this time of year, during the holiday season, is when our furniture tends to get the most use. Whether it’s entertaining friends or hosting family, your furniture will be well-used over the next few weeks.

Last month we talked about some easy ways to get wax and water stains off upholstery and wood furniture. This month we’ll go backwards a little and talk about some ways to protect it from the food, wax and condensation before you have to go to the trouble of cleaning it up. And thank goodness our options are a lot more pleasant than the plastic slipcovers we remember from Grandma’s house!

  • Protect your upholstery furniture with a fabric protectant spray. These can be bought at most supermarkets or supercenters. Just follow the directions carefully when using them. Remember, just because you’ve sprayed your furniture with protectant doesn’t mean it’s never going to get stained, but it does go a long way in repelling foods and other spills.
  • Use coasters! You don’t have to be obsessive like Monica from Friends. But if you have plenty of coasters sitting out, your guests are more likely to use them. It’s a great opportunity to do some shopping and buy yourself a few sets of holiday coasters.
  • Make use of trays and runners. This time of year we all like putting out candles, but having hot wax on a table can be bad for the furniture. Instead of putting candles straight on the table, set them decoratively on a tray or runner.

For more advice on how to care for your furniture, stop by Bowen Town & Country Furniture and talk with our knowledgeable associates. They’re always glad to help, and you might even find a new piece of furniture to bring home as well.
