Zimmerman Chair: Living on the Edge

Wednesday, January 28th, 2015

Normandy-Room-362x362Here at Bowen Town & Country Furniture in Winston-Salem, we love to sell American-made furniture. Not only are we proud to be able to support local economies here in the United States by purchasing and selling products from companies that provide much-needed jobs in our hometown communities and help stimulate the economy, but also there are pieces of furniture that exude a unique craftsmanship from American furniture makers that can’t be matched from other manufacturers.

Zimmerman Chair is one of the companies we are proud to work with that can easily state all their products are American made. They have a wonderful line of tables and chairs in many traditional styles, modeled off of old world and American furniture that maintains a classic appeal, all made by craftsmen in and around Myerstown, Pa. But in addition to the traditional pieces, Zimmerman Chair has a Live Edge line that adds even more excitement to its offerings.

Recently, a new show, Redwood Kings, has become pretty popular on Animal Planet. In this show, a group of men go into the redwood forest searching for reclaimed wood. They then take it out of the forest and to their workplace, turning it into fabulous items including tables and treehouses.

In that same vein, but on a much smaller scale, the Live Edge line from Zimmerman takes wood from American forests and turns it into works of art. The natural beauty of the wood shines through, with all its flaws and unique marks. Many times the bark is left on the edge to enhance the natural feel of the piece. Built from salvaged trees, this furniture makes use of wood that otherwise would go to waste, bringing the beauty of the natural world into our homes for a lifetime of enjoyment.

We are all looking for a unique piece of furniture for our homes that will be not only functional but will enhance the beauty of our home. With Live Edge, you have the opportunity to pick out the exact piece that appeals to you, and just like snowflakes, each one is different. Guests will comment on the striking beauty of your table and be awed by its complexity.

Stop by the showroom at Bowen Town & Country Furniture today to see what Zimmerman Chair has to offer, and let us look through their wonderful catalog to find just the right piece to match your style.

Great Mattresses, Made in America

Thursday, January 15th, 2015

pp_classicSlide-1Is it time for a new mattress? You might be putting off that purchase because you think a good mattress is way too expensive, and you don’t want to waste your money on a cheap mattress that won’t last.

That’s one reason why we’re proud to be a showroom for Sealy mattresses, among our many other great quality mattress brands. Sealy brings you great products, totally made in America, at affordable prices.

It all started in 1881 in the small town of Sealy, Texas. Daniel Haynes, a cotton gin builder, was asked to fill a mattress. Word got out, and eventually he was more in the mattress business than the cotton gin business!

Over the past 134 years, Sealy mattresses have made a name for themselves through high-quality, comfortable products and constant innovation. Sealy was the first company to display and advertise a king-sized bed, they worked to reinvent the inner coil and box spring, and patented the groundbreaking technologies of Posture Channels and Pressure Relief Inlays that are designed to relive the pressure points that cause tossing and turning.

Today, Sealy remains competitive through its continued innovation. Its popular Posturepedic mattresses come in three varieties, the classic spring coils, the Gel Series with memory foam, and the Hybrid Series constructed of half foam, half springs, with Opti Cool Gel Memory foam for a more comfortable night’s sleep. And Sealy products are affordably priced, so everyone can enjoy a good night’s sleep in luxury and comfort.

We also appreciate the fact that as Sealy continued to grow and innovate, they kept their operations here in the United States. The company owns and operates 24 plants in the United States dedicated to building mattresses, from innerspring foundations to component parts. It also has a plant dedicated to producing its own latex, a first in the mattress industry.

Don’t put off that mattress purchase any longer. Come by Bowen Town & Country Furniture today, and see for yourself the quality and comfort of a mattress made in the United States.

New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home

Monday, January 12th, 2015

american made dining roomIt’s January, a new year, and for many of us that means making new goals or renewing our resolve to keep some old ones. Commercials for gym memberships and weight loss programs are at their peak right now as people try to start the new year off right by exercising, eating right and taking better care of their bodies.

Here at Bowen Town and Country Furniture, we have some resolutions for you to add to your list, ones that will help you take care of your furniture just as well as you take care of your body.

When you choose a dining room table or a couch for your home, you take the time to pick out something that will enhance the beauty of your home and will last through the wear and tear of daily life. Good furniture is more than just another item for your home, it is an investment. Make sure you get the most out of that investment with these New Year’s resolutions.

I resolve to:

Always use coasters when setting drinks down on wood furniture to avoid water marks.

  • Use placemats or a tablecloth when eating on a wooden surface.
  • Purchase a table pad to place under tablecloths to protect the table top of my regularly used table even further.
  • Purchase a good-quality leather cleaner and use it at least twice this year on my leather furniture to clean and protect it.
  • Train the dogs not to sleep on the couch, to prevent unnecessary wear and hard to control odors.
  • Dust regularly to keep my furniture looking its best.
  • Try to eat on upholstery furniture as little as possible to avoid crumbs and stains.

Remember that feeling of pride you had when your furniture was first delivered to your home, and how it seemed to set the room off just from its newness? With the right habits in place, your furniture will continue to shine for years to come.

And of course, there’s always room to add another great piece to your collection. Visit Bowen Town and Country Furniture today to check out what’s new on our showroom floor, and get more great tips from our team of talented sales associates.

Hancock & Moore Leather

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

LeatherSamplesThis truly unique upholstery material is a hallmark of Hancock & Moore seating. We devote many hours hand selecting the finest leathers being produced today. We look for grain consistency, which means the leather will absorb color uniformly when dyed. Our leathers are selected for a natural appearance, with distinctive markings that impart unique character. The natural surface of leather is like a landscape, with varying textures and shadowy furrows. These distinctive features are unique to genuine leather, a product which has been raised rather than engineered. As with all things in nature, no two hides will be exactly alike. CLICK HERE TO VIEW LEATHER GLOSSARY.
COMMON LEATHER MARKINGS

A. Cattle ranchers use distinctive brands to identify their steers, these brands are rarely seen on furniture.
B. Healed scratches from barbed wire nicks are common markings on an unaltered hide.
C. Pore patterns (the hide’s grain) distinguish the surface of the unaltered hide.
D. Neck and shoulder wrinkles look like furrows.
