A Quick Change for the Holidays

It happens the same time every year… Thanksgiving is always the last Thursday in November and Christmas always falls on December 25th! So, why do we wait until now to think about updating our homes for the holidays? Whether it’s a busy schedule or plain old procrastination that delayed your progress, there is still time to give your home a refresh before the season’s festivities begin. Here are a few of our favorite tips to change your room in a hurry:

1. Rearrange your furniture. A new layout can completely change the way a room feels, and can usually be accomplished in less than an hour.

2. Add a new rug.  Nothing will liven up a room more than a bold punch of color or pattern, and a rug is the perfect way to do it.

3. Switch out your artwork for a decorative mirror.  A mirror will reflect any extra lights we add, from the Christmas tree to candles. They are especially beautiful layered with holiday décor, like wreaths and garland.

4. Change your lamps.  Lamps are the ideal way to add personality and brighten dark corners.

We have a wide selection of accessories, including lamps, mirrors, and even rugs to choose form and we are happy to help you make the perfect selection.

Everyone’s home for the holidays…but where are you going to put them?

It’s hard to believe that the holidays are just around the corner and usually that means large family dinners and parties with friends. Although the festivities are always fun, figuring out just where everyone is going to sit or sleep is not. Your home typically accommodates 2, 4, or 6 people and it can be extra challenging to facilitate a group triple that size. With clever furniture solutions from Bowen Town & Country, you’ll be sure to have a place for everyone.

To maximize dining space, consider an extending table which allows you to add extra seating. A pedestal base is best when trying to add the maximum amount of chairs. Refectory style tables offered by both Hooker and Rowe Furniture have self storing leaves and can accommodate 8- 10 people when fully extended. For more flexible table space, add a flip top table that folds out for extra dining, but can be used as a server or console the rest of the year. Need more seating space? Benches are a great flexible seating option. They can be pulled up to the dining table for Thanksgiving dinner, but can be stored at the foot of a bed or in a foyer other times.

Seating isn’t the only issue you will face when guests arrive. Extra sleeping space for overnight guests can be another challenge. If guest bedrooms are maxed out, we typically turn to trundle beds or sleeper sofas, but have you ever considered a sleeper ottoman? One of our favorite vendors, Jessica Charles, offers a cocktail ottoman with a twin size sleeper inside; Perfect when space is truly minimal and it’s available in both fabric and leather.

Whether you need extra seating, gathering, or sleeping space, we have furniture solutions for your holiday accommodation dilemmas. Visit our website or contact an associate to learn what we can do for you.

Meet Our New Team Member: BreeAnn Cook

Wednesday, November 4th, 2015

bowen furnitureWe have a great team of associates at Bowen Town & Country Furniture. Working here is like being with extended family, and the best part is, whenever we bring someone new into the family, we’re always excited to have their talents and skills to add to our team and make your experience in our store even better.

Today we want to welcome our newest team member, BreeAnn Cook. BreeAnn joins our team as an interior designer, and we are excited to have her bring a fresh eye and new input to our offerings at Bowen Town & Country Furniture.

BreeAnn’s love for textiles and design started at an early age. As a young girl she enjoyed sewing, and was especially interested in colors, always looking for new color combinations and patterns to make her designs stand out. In college she took that passion a step further, earning a degree in interior design.

For almost 10 years, BreeAnn has used her degree working in design in a variety of different ways, from residential interior design to market showroom setup/design and as a design consultant for a national furniture retailer. We are glad she has come to Bowen Town & Country Furniture, where her skills can be used to improve the offerings we have on our showroom floor, as well as giving personalized advice and tips to our customers looking to update their homes.

It’s easy to see that BreeAnn’s love of design isn’t just a job for her. Even when she’s not working, you’ll find her wandering through the many great antique and consignment stores in Winston-Salem and the surrounding area, looking for a unique item to add to her décor or searching for a DIY project to occupy her weekends. She loves being crafty and creative, almost as much as she loves relaxing at home with her husband Joseph and their two dogs, Jackson and Dixie.

Stop by the store today to help us welcome BreeAnn and make her feel at home at Bowen Town & Country Furniture.
