The After Christmas Void

Each year, we put quite a bit of effort into decorating our homes for the holidays.  We add wreaths and bows, lights and garland, mantle decorations and more, until our homes are just busting at the seams with holiday cheer. But, by January first, the ornaments and stockings have been packed away with care, leaving your home looking rather bare.  It never fails, after the decorations come down, there’s a feeling of void, and the temptation to fill it can be great. Before you pull an extra piece of furniture from the spare bedroom, or put everything back exactly the way it was, take some time to re-assess the space.

Here are a few questions to consider:

1. Does the room function for your lifestyle?
2. Are your furnishings showing wear and tear?
3. Do you avoid spending time in that room because it feels old or cluttered?

If this sounds familiar, then now is the perfect opportunity to address what your room is NOT doing for you. Whether you need a more durable fabric for your sofa, more storage for all your stuff, or just want to update your color scheme, we have a variety of furniture solutions in stock, and we are ready to help you create a space that truly works for your lifestyle, instead of just filling a void.  Visit our showroom today, or check out our Facebook page for new items arriving weekly.

Mixing it up…

Remember when buying furniture was easy? You walked into a store, found a style you liked, and bought the sofa, the loveseat and even the chair and ottoman all in the same fabric. Then you bought a cocktail table, two matching end tables and topped them with a pair of lamps.  Long gone are the days of furniture suits and the matchy-matchy approach to decorating. These days, the mixing of patterns, finishes and materials has flooded the marketplace. While many are ready and willing to embrace a more eclectic style, they struggle to pull the look together.  Instead they settle for basic beige and boring brown.

Here are a few simple tips to take your look from bland to beautiful:

1. Know your options.  When ordering custom furniture, there are lots of simple changes you can make to really upgrade the look.  Contrast pillows, contrast welt, decorative tapes and trims, nail head trim, and contrasting fabric applications like just the outside back or just the inside back allow you to express your personality, and really make your furniture unique to you. On case-goods, you may have the option of multiple finishes, a variety of hardware and different levels of distressing.  Even leather can get upgraded with decorative stitching and quilting, and specialty treatments like burnishing and distressing.

2. Play with patterns and color. Since furniture tends to be a major purchase, many people shy away from mixing patterns for fear that it will clash and they will be stuck with it. The formula for mixing patterns is rather simple really. Pick three or five fabrics in similar colors and vary the scale of the patterns.  For example- a small dot, or overall pattern, mixed with a medium size stripe or geometric, then a large scale floral.  If that still seems daunting, try pairing a large geometric or floral with a single, bold pop of color.

3.  Mix media on case-goods.  Using the same finish on everything is no longer the norm. To vary your look, add a painted piece or two, mix in a few metal or glass accents. Or for something really different, try adding Lucite accents.

If you’re ready to mix it up, and make your home look and feel more exciting, visit Bowen Town and Country today! We carry multiple manufacturers with a variety of customization options, designed to allow you to express your personality, and make your home unique.

There’s nothing like the Christmas season to remind you of the family and old traditions. Being around the one’s you love gives a feeling of comfort and familiarity. At Bowen Town and Country, we are like a family too, with the majority of our staff being with the company for ten or more years.

Like every family, we each have unique personalities and talents, but what we all have in common is the core value of treating others with respect and kindness, by offering quality products and personal service from a familiar face.

We put this into practice everyday, from the time you enter our store, to delivery, and even service after the sale. We believe in developing a personal relationship, so that when you have furniture needs, you’ll know just who to contact and you can feel confident that we will offer a quality experience.

During this Christmas time, we would like to thank our loyal customers, who have been a part of our Bowen family for many years. And if you have not yet experienced the Bowen family difference, we invite you to visit us and learn why our customers keep coming back.

bowen giftsBy: BreeAnn Cook, Interior Designer

With Thanksgiving officially behind us, the rush is on to check off your holiday gift list in the short month between now and Christmas.  It can be hectic amongst the crowds in search of the perfect gift, and after hours of shopping you still may come out empty handed.  So, we have compiled a list of our favorite things here at Bowen Town and Country, we would love to find under the tree.  Best of all, you can shop in a relaxed atmosphere, with friendly sales staff to assist you, all while enjoying a hot beverage.

1. Whimsical and unique describes this little Pradesh accent lamp by Uttermost to a tee. Its small size makes it a great gift that can fit anywhere.

2. We love the bold and colorful statement this canvas makes, “Pastel Blocks” by Bassett Mirror. Perfect for the artistic person on your list.

3. For the hostess/entertainer, this Quinn hospitality cabinet has a lot to offer with storage for both wine and glasses, and a removable tray that can be placed on top for barware.  It’s guaranteed to be a hit.

4. For the wine drinker, extra storage is always a plus, and we’ve got options big and small.  We love this nickel finish wine stand from Butler that’s as stylish as it functional with its curvy, swirling lines.

5. Give the gift of comfort and better sleep with a specialty pillow designed to create better spinal alignment for side, back or stomach sleepers by Bed Gear. Usually, you would not think of giving a pillow for a gift, but you know they will use it, and we’re betting they’ll love it.

6. Know someone who really needs to relax? Score major brownie points and give them the gift of ultimate comfort with a Stressless recliner by Ekornes. It features comfort balance adapt technology that automatically adjusts to your seating angle for ultimate comfort and support.  As a bonus, you can give back while you’re giving…now through January 18th, Ekornes has a charity promotion that offers $200 off your Stressless purchase with a $50 donation to charity (see an associate for details).

7. The Directeur floor lamp definitely has the industrial cool factor and is a unique addition to the transitional home.  We suggest gifting it to a bachelor furnishing their first home or anyone who loves industrial chic décor.

We hope this gift list has you thinking outside the “sweater box” this year.  But, if you’re still stumped on what to buy, we invite you to visit our store and see all that we have to offer.  Our dedicated sales team is eager to help you find that perfect gift, and a stress free shopping experience is guaranteed!
