3 Reasons to buy your next mattress at Bowen Town & Country Furniture

Tuesday, May 1st, 2018

It’s hard to go anywhere in Winston-Salem and not see a mattress store on the corner. Once you decide on a store, and actually go, you’re bombarded with option after option and brand after brand. So, how do you know what to buy? Maybe the sales associate can shed some light; except, he has only been on the job a week or two and can’t really explain the difference between the higher priced model and the basic model. Well, we at Bowen Town & Country furniture understand the frustration that comes with mattress shopping. We’ve got three reasons why you should buy your mattress from us, and not a big box retailer.

First, we have a knowledgeable staff. Unlike typical retailers, our staff has been in the furniture and mattress industry for some time. Over the years, we’ve learned how to listen to our customers and understand their needs. We then educate our customers on the features of each mattress, and how it
can assist with those needs.

Second, we have a curated selection. We don’t believe you need fifty different options, only to confuse you. Instead, we strive to offer quality mattresses, with features that matter and provide the greatest value to our customers.

Lastly, we have the best delivery team in the business. Our warehouse and delivery team work directly for Bowen, and like the rest of our staff, they’ve been with the company for years. This gives you peace of mind. You know who is entering your home and you know they are experienced.

We hope that you will visit our showroom to check out our selection of Sealy Posturepedic and Tempur-Pedic mattresses or browse our selection online.

What to consider when buying a guest room mattress?

Tuesday, November 14th, 2017

Let’s be honest…shopping for a mattress doesn’t rank highly on most people’s list of fun things to do. In fact, it is probably one of your the least favorite things. Considering that most of us are not planning to sleep on it, we probably do not put much time or effort into selecting a guest room mattress. However, if you’ve ever spent the night at a family member or friend’s house, and experienced a bad mattress, you may think twice before making that purchase. Here are a few things to consider when buying a mattress for a guest space.

1. Who will be using the mattress? If you host mostly couples, consider mattresses with encased coil technology. Encased coils reduce motion transfer, helping to eliminate partner interruption, which is one of the main causes of sleep loss. Memory foam mattresses also absorb motion transfer. Will you be hosting mostly younger guests, like grandchildren? Don’t assume that just because they are young the mattress isn’t important. Growing children require more sleep than adults, and a quality mattress will help them get a better night’s sleep.

2. How frequently will the mattress be used? If a guest room gets used once or twice a year, it can be tempting to go with the cheapest option possible. Unfortunately, this can be a bad move for both you and your occasional guests. What if your aging parent goes from a twice a year guest to a long-term guest, or you find yourself sleeping in the guest room while your spouse is sick? Suddenly, you regret buying that $299 mattress. Make sure to select a mattress that you would enjoy sleeping on for more than a night. That doesn’t mean it has to be the most expensive, but it should offer adequate support and be comfortable.

3. Memory foam versus Innerspring? Sealy really explains it best when describing their new Response and Conform line. The Response line is an innerspring style mattress offering support that “holds” you, while the Conform line is a memory foam style mattress offering support that “hugs” you. If you can’t decide, go with a Hybrid model that offers the best of both worlds.

Whether it’s for a few nights or a few months, you want your guests to be comfortable. You don’t have to spend a lot of time, or a small fortunate to get a good quality mattress, but you do have to be willing to educate yourself on the options and try a few models. Visit our showroom today to try our Sealy lineup, and find a mattress that will make you and your guest happy.

Could there be anything harder to shop for than a mattress? At least with a car, you can peek under the hood, even if you don’t know what you’re looking at. Well, Sealy understands your frustration and they have developed a new icon system that will help you not only identify the mattress contents, but also discover key features that address your sleep needs.

Key Features Include:

– Pressure Relieving Foam that adapts to your body, relieving pressure points for personalized comfort.

–  Zoned Support for reinforcement in the center of the mattress where the heaviest part of your body needs it the most.

– Reinforced edge provides a durable sitting surface and extended sleeping surface.

– Climate control features like moisture wicking fabric and cool to the touch technology helps keep you dry and comfortable.

– Clean technology protects the mattress from common allergens, such as mite dander.

– Adjustable base compatible means that its specifically designed to work with adjustable bases.

– Posturepedic Technology is exclusive to Sealy and provides reinforced support in the mattress quilt area with additional foam.

We are adding the new Sealy mattress Conform and Response line up to our bedding gallery, and we invite you to come give them a try. Be sure to check out the icon located on the end of each bed, highlighting the key features that will help you rest better, and make your mattress shopping experience easier.

Tossing and turning, whether by you or your partner, is typically caused by pressure points. When body your does not get proper support, circulation can be cut off causing discomfort. Did you know an adjustable base bed could improve your health?

We all know the crucial role a quality mattress plays in a good night’s rest, but did you know that your sleep and your health could be improved with an adjustable base bed? An adjustable base, also known as a lifestyle base, is a foundation system that can raise and lower the head and foot of your mattress to achieve a more ergonomic position.

This ability to customize your sleeping position has a myriad of health benefits. For starters, it allows you to adjust to the natural curvature of your spine, which can relieve back and neck pain. It also reduces tension on the muscles and joints that is caused from laying flat. Think of your body as a rubber band. When you are laying completely flat, your body is stretched tight creating tension. Just elevating your legs slightly will begin to relieve tension on your lower back that you may not even realize is there. Elevating your feet can also reduce swelling in the legs and ankles.

Elevating your head improves your breathing, and reduces the strain on your heart by promoting better blood circulation. With better breathing, comes less snoring, which means both you and your partner will sleep better. Head elevation can also help those who suffer from acid reflux.

In addition to all of the health benefits of an adjustable base, there are a few lifestyle benefits as well. If you read, work or watch television in bed you can elevate yourself to a sitting position, instead of propping with pillows. And, if you are looking to pamper yourself, some models offer heat and massage functions.

Whether you want to reap the health benefits, sleep better, or have a better view of your favorite show in bed, you owe it to yourself to test drive a lifestyle adjustable base. Visit our showroom today to learn about the options available and try one today.

Cool products to Beat the Heat

Monday, July 18th, 2016

mattress winston-salemBy: BreeAnn Cook, Interior Designer

The majority of Americans complain of sleeping hot, and it results in hours of lost sleep every year. If you struggle with overheating at night, then you probably experience difficulty falling asleep, and staying asleep. Allow us to recommend some cool products to help you beat the heat.

Technology has advanced leaps and bounds when it comes to mattresses, and this includes smarter, cooler materials. Manufacturers like Sealy and Tempur-Pedic have introduced mattresses with cooling properties designed to keep you cool and comfortable promoting better sleep. The Optimum series by Sealy features gel memory foam that gives an instantly cool sensation, paired with Outlast Gold material to reduce excess heat, which means you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Tempur-Pedic has its own answer to sleeping hot, the Breeze series. The Breeze series has a cooling cover that provides an immediate cool to the touch feeling, helping you get to sleep quickly. Then a layer of Purecool comfort material, which is likened to time release medication, keeps you cooler over time, not just at first. The perforated design is extra breathable allowing heat to flow away from your body, so once you fall to sleep, the cooling features keep working, helping you stay asleep.

People often forget the important role your pillow plays in getting a good nights rest. According to Bedgear, a leader in quality bedding products, thirty percent of your sleeping comfort is attributed to your pillow. And, if you’re a hot sleeper, you probably find yourself flipping your pillow throughout the night in search of some cooling relief. Bedgear developed the Storm series pillows with heat busting comfort in mind. The pillow is made of a climate control fabric called Ver-tex which delivers a cooling sensation on contact. Speaking from experience, it feels amazing! Beyond that cool feeling, the pillow is designed to deflect heat away from your body and help regulate temperature throughout the night.

If you already have a newer mattress, but find that you are still sleeping hot, we recommend the Ver-tex performance mattress protector by Bedgear. It has an invisible liquid barrier to protect, a cushion layer that promotes air circulation to keep you cool, and cooling technology built into the fiber to offer ultimate climate control. You’re going to love how this mattress protector can make you existing mattress feel cooler.

We understand how important quality sleep is and we know we can help you sleep cooler. Come experience all of these products in our relaxing bedding gallery and learn how you can beat the heat.

Good Sleep Matters: New Study Shows Sleep Boosts Immunity!

Wednesday, October 14th, 2015

sealyWe all know we feel better after a good night’s sleep. When we’re well rested we’re more alert, more energetic and better able to concentrate and make decisions. Overall, we just feel happier. But did you know that getting good sleep can not only make you feel better emotionally, it can also keep you physically healthy? New research has shown that during deep sleep, or slow-wave sleep, our brain works to store information. It can be memories or facts we’ve learned that day, but it also stores information about pathogens, giving the immune system the ability to recognize a pathogen similar to one it has already faced, and then counter it with the effective immune response.

This is great news, because sleep is one thing that we all love! We already knew that eating less sugar and exercising regularly keep your body healthy. Now adding sleep to that list gives us one that’s pretty easy to check off.

Of course, the key is to get a good night of healthy sleep. Almost half of Americans (48%) report they don’t get enough sleep. Luckily, at Bowen Town & Country Furniture, we have one of the keys to a good night’s sleep: A great mattress.

Being comfortable in bed is one of the best ways to ensure a good night’s sleep. When you have a mattress that supports your body the way you like, you’re more likely to fall asleep and get the deep sleep that helps with building the brain’s immune functions.

Check out some of the new features in mattresses that help keep you comfortable:

Tempur-Pedic’s new Tempur-Breeze cooling technology is made up of a three part system that wicks away moisture and dissipates heat to keep you cooler as you sleep.

Sealy Posturpedic mattresses provide the right amount of support to keep you comfortable and avoid restless nights. The trademarked Sealy Embrace technology uses encased coils that respond to the natural curves and alignment of your spine for full body support. It also helps reduce motion transfer, so you don’t wake up every time your partner moves.

Therapedic’s BackSense mattresses provide hourglass support, with more firmness at the shoulders and hips and a little less in the lumbar region.

As you can see, there are a lot of different choices when it comes to buying a good mattress. Come into Bowen Town & Country furniture today to talk with our sleep specialists, and let them find the mattress that’s right for you.

Keep Cool with Sealy Mattresses

Thursday, August 6th, 2015

brand-posturepedicSummertime means ice cream, days at the lake, trips to the beach and tall glasses of lemonade or tea sipped on the front porch. Many of our favorite summer memories center around things that help keep us cool during the season’s hot, humid days. But what about the nights? Here we are in the middle of August, and whether high temperatures reach the 80s or the 90s, the humidity makes it feel much hotter than the temperature would have you believe. And that mugginess clings well into the night, making it hard to get a restful night’s sleep when you spend most of your time tossing and turning, trying to get cool.

Luckily, there are some great mattresses that have incorporated new technology to improve your comfort at night, helping you get a better night’s sleep, even on the hottest, muggiest of August days.

One option to try is the Sealy Optimum Gel Latex Series.  These mattresses include a 2-inch layer of OptiCool latex foam, the only latex foam on the market that is fused with OUTLAST, a material used in high-performance outdoor gear and undergarments to promote temperature regulation.

The result is a mattress that creates a cooler sleeping environment, absorbing your body’s heat and dispersing it to help regulate your temperature. Another mattress on the market with cooling technology is the Tempur-Breeze line from Tempur-Pedic.  This technology has been added to three of the company’s most popular mattresses to help you sleep cool all night long. The Tempur-Breeze is a three step system that includes a climate-support layer that channels heat away from your body, on top of that is a comfort layer that draws heat away from your body and into the support layer, and on top is a cover that wicks away excess heat and moisture, making the mattress cool to the touch.

Come in to Bowen Town & Country Furniture today and see for yourself how these mattresses have incorporated new technology to improve your sleep. You might not dread going to be in August ever again! Give us a call, or email us for more information at 336-765-1360,

Sleep Cool Through the Summer

Friday, June 19th, 2015

Tempur-Pedic-Breeze-Info-1024x875One of the great things about living in North Carolina is that we get to enjoy the beauty of four seasons. Bright-colored fall leaves, reasonably cold winters with a snowfall here and there, springtimes full of flowers blooming and hot summer made for spending time at the lake or camping in the mountains. But even with four seasons, sometimes it seems like the summer is the longest. Being in the South, we are in the area of the country that gets hot, humid days from June to August, and sometimes as early as May and as late as September. The heat and humidity doesn’t disappear when the sun goes down either. So how do you stay comfortable during the hot nights of summer when you’re trying hard to get a good night’s sleep?

Back in our grandparents’ days, people often slept on the porch. That’s where they might have better luck catching a few cool breezes during the night, and it got them out of the hot, stuffy house that had absorbed the heat of the day. Luckily today, most of our homes are air conditioned. But it can still get hot at night. Here are a few tips to help you sleep cooler, and get a better night’s sleep.

Let air circulate by using a ceiling fan

Sleep in the nude! It actually helps regulate your body temperature.

Avoid outdoor activities or active workouts just before bed.

Keep your room slightly cool. Research has found that 65 degrees is the optimal temperature for good sleep.

Use 100% cotton bedding. Natural fibers are best for regulating body temperature.

Get a mattress with cooling technology built in! That’s right, there are actually mattresses designed to help keep your body cool at night. Tempur-pedic has added its Tempur-Breeze cooling material to three of its popular mattress lines: Tempur-Rhapsody, Tempur-Cloud and Tempur-Cloud Supreme. The material is designed to keep heat away from the body, which makes the mattress feel cooler to the touch. In addition, the core of the mattress is designed to channel heat away from the body, getting the heat you produce even further away, to help you have a cool night’s sleep.

Come in to Bowen Town & Country Furniture today to see for yourself the amazing new technology of Tempur-Breeze. After all, we are already enjoying those hot, muggy days of summer! Give us a call, or email us for more information at 336-765-1360,
